When I was young, I was a substance abuser. I especially got high on alcohol. Fortunately, I got over my worst addictions.
Life got to seem boring sometimes. My highs were now only from caffeine and overdoses of ice cream.
However, this changed because of the pandemic. Admittedly, I was unhappy for a long time because I was limited by the risk of contracting Covid 19. The whole world became more limited when the coronavirus began to spread.
A happier time came just recently. I wanted to get vaccinated, but it was hard to get appointments. Then my doctor, Dr. Amy Huang, helped me out. She put me on an email list for vaccinations provided by Northwell Health. In only 4 days, I got an appointment at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City.
The vaccine was Pfizer. It has a reputation for causing side effects. But I went for both shots and got no side effects at all.
Actually, that was a misstatement. I got one very striking side effect. After the second shot, I got very HIGH. I was FLYING. You can see this from the selfie.
When I got home after the vaccination, I celebrated with my boyfriend, Tom Boland. I was very elated. He was still somewhat elated from his own vaccine experience. A few weeks before, he had gotten his second Moderna shot in the Bronx.
Tom is usually a man of moderate moods. But after getting vaccinated twice, he got a vaccine high similar to mine. It is a combination of great relief and a greater feeling of safety.
Tom had a much harder time getting an appointment than I did. He spent a whole afternoon scrolling on different web sites seeking an appointment slot. Finally, he found one and nailed it.
The second time Tom went to the Bronx for his shot, it was snowing. But nothing could have stopped him, even a blizzard. He stood outdoors under scaffolding waiting for his turn to come inside.
Tom had a few side effects, such as a sore arm each time. But everyone I know who has been vaccinated does not care about side effects. Clearly, side effects from a vaccine are immensely better than contracting Covid 19.
My sister and her husband, who live in Philadelphia, have both been vaccinated twice. They both got some side effects but tolerated them willingly. They both got vaccine highs like I did!
After my second vaccination, I wanted to celebrate by having a special meal with my boyfriend. We ordered from a great Mexican restaurant called Natureworks. The food was so good that I got high from THAT. It was a whole day of high piled upon another high!
Do I want to go back to old habits like drinking and getting wasted? I think not. It looks like I will have more opportunities for vaccine highs in the future. The CDC announced that the current vaccines will only protect people for about six months. Then, I guess, back I will go for booster shots.
For people who have not yet been vaccinated, I urge them to get moving and get an appointment. The sooner you do, the sooner you will get your vaccine high. 😊
An important P.S.: In this article, I have spoken lightly of getting vaccinated. However, it is a very serious matter. More than 550,000 people in the United States have died from the coronavirus. It is the third leading cause of death here. It is extremely important to get vaccinated so you can help to stop the spread of the virus. It is also extremely important to wear a mask, practice social distancing, and wash your hands often. This is true even after you have been vaccinated.
We are all engaged in a war against a deadly virus. We must do everything we can to WIN.
